Have you ever prayed for someone year after year and wondered if God heard you? Maybe you have a child, a parent, or a friend who walked away from faith. You keep praying, but nothing seems to change. It is easy to feel discouraged.
Scripture reminds us that God is patient. Second Peter 3:9 tells us the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, but He is patient; wanting everyone to come to repentance. God's timing is not our timing. What feels like silence to us may be God waiting for the right moment.
When we pray for others, we must remember they have free will. God will not force anyone to return to Him. He honors our prayers, but He also honors human choice. That is why intercession for a lost loved one can take years, or even a lifetime.
Revelation 5:8 describes golden bowls full of incense, which represent the prayers of God's people. Your prayers are not wasted. They are collected, remembered, and held before God like sweet incense.
Imagine this: every night for thirty years, you pray for someone who had wandered away. That is more than ten thousand prayers stacked before God. When that person finally turns toward home and says, "I need to go back to my Father's house," God does not just answer one prayer, He answers the whole stack.
"Here's a prayer from 1989: Answered! Here is one from 2002: Answered! Here are the prayers from every season you never stopped praying. Answered!"
Never stop praying for the prodigal. God may not answer today, tomorrow, or even in your lifetime on earth. But He keeps every prayer. He waits for that first step toward home. Your prayers are eternal, and they matter more than you know.
